Getting no results from your search can be frustrating, but Library Search searches hundreds of databases, so it is unlikely the information you want doesn't exist. So don't give up!

First of all, think about your search terms:

  • Are you being too specific? Perhaps try broadening the subject a little. For example, say we wanted information about a particular type of apple: Instead of searching 'Egremont Russet' you could try a broader category like 'English apple'.

If you are using the Advanced Search function you could also:

  • reduce the number of search boxes
  • reduce the number of keywords
  • change the 'search field'
  • consider switching off 'full text' in search options, this too might broaden the results you get.
